Warrnambool is the largest city in the Great Ocean Road region, located 263km south-west of Melbourne, approximately a 3-hour drive via Geelong on the Princes Highway or Hamilton Highway. V/Line also runs a return train service from Melbourne to Warrnambool via Geelong several times per day.

You can commence your medical career in Warrnambool as South West Healthcare has 17 two-year internship positions on offer. With strong links to the Victorian Rural Generalist Program and Deakin’s Western Victoria Regional Training Hub, you can live and complete specialty training without moving from the town or region. 

What does a typical day look like?

Our students are immersed in the clinical environment, looking after patients and completing ward rounds. This clinical learning is paired with a formal teaching program to round out students clinical training at Deakin Medical School, Warrnambool – South West.
